Trump reacts after US gas tanker hit in Egypt

United States President Donald Trump has reacted to the drone attack on a gas storage tanker in the Mediterranean port of Damietta in Egypt, saying the incident is "more or less a continuation of the same situation."

Asked by reporters whether the attack was linked to Iran, he said he had been informed of the incident, but did not provide further details on the possible perpetrators.

"I've been informed about this. It's more or less a continuation of the same situation," the American president said.

The attack took place in the port of Damietta, where a drone struck a gas storage tanker owned by a US company, causing a fire that spread to another ship, British maritime security company Ambrey reported.

According to three trade sources familiar with the incident, the target of the attack was the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Winter. After the strike, the fire also spread to the ship Gaslog Salem, which was located next to it.

Two security sources said preliminary assessments indicated the explosion was most likely caused by a drone strike. The development raises concerns about the spread of the conflict in the Middle East to regional energy infrastructure. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
