T3 may be issued this afternoon with T1 until noon

The Observatory says it may issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 this afternoon with the Standby Signal No. 1 remaining in force at least until noon today, as severe tropical storm Noul stays over 300 kilometres away from Hong Kong.

Despite Noul’s distance, the city will remain very hot under the influence of its subsiding air, and swells are expected. The public is advised to stay away from the shoreline and avoid water sports.

As Noul strengthens and moves closer to eastern Guangdong, local winds are expected to pick up with occasional squally showers later today.

The Observatory says the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 may be issued this afternoon.

Noul is most likely to make landfall near Huizhou to Jieyang early on Sunday, but its exact path and the size of its gale winds remain uncertain.

If the storm tracks further west, some coastal areas of Hong Kong could experience gale-force winds. The Observatory will monitor the situation and may issue higher warning signals later tonight.
