MTR to begin inspections as T9 downgrades

The MTR Corporation on Sunday said engineering crews would be deployed immediately to inspect all open track sections and associated infrastructure once the Observatory lowers the Typhoon Signal No. 9 at 7.10am.

According to the railway operator, the inspection teams will carry out a comprehensive safety sweep, which includes clearing debris, assessing any potential damage and performing necessary repairs.

Only after these protocols are completed will services on the exposed sections gradually resume.

Due to their extensive open-air layouts, several lines are expected to require longer inspection and repair times.

These include the East Rail Line, Tuen Ma Line, Airport Express, Tung Chung Line and the Light Rail network.

In the wake of the storm, MTR is advising passengers to exercise patience and carefully monitor official service updates — particularly those concerning the reopening of open sections — rather than heading directly to stations.

The operator also reiterated that public safety remains the top priority, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid making unnecessary trips while severe weather conditions persist.

Meanwhile, all daytime bus services operated by KMB and Long Win remain suspended while the T9 signal is in force.

Staff from both bus companies will be deployed to inspect road conditions, and services will resume as soon as it is confirmed safe for operation.
