Five killed in air strikes as Israel flouts Lebanon ceasefire
AI Summary
Israel conducted airstrikes on southern Lebanon and ordered residents of approximately 20 towns and villages to evacuate northward, away from areas near the border. Hezbollah claimed its fighters engaged advancing Israeli forces and asserted they repelled military movements. The military escalation occurred amid ongoing US-Iran diplomatic negotiations regarding a potential regional settlement.

Moderate: Moderate outlets provide balanced reporting of military operations from both sides while situating the conflict within the broader context of US-Iran negotiations on regional security.
Conservative: Conservative-leaning outlets emphasize Israeli military operations and frame the airstrikes and evacuation measures as direct responses to Hezbollah rocket attacks and military activities.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that one person was killed in an air strike targeting the town of Maarakeh, in the Tyre district.
Ali Badie, the mayor of Ar Rihan municipality, was killed in an Israeli attack on the area in the Jezzine district of southern Lebanon. Three people were killed in the towns of Deir al Zahrani and Kafr Reman, in Nabatieh district.
The strikes came shortly after the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning for 20 locations, including the city of Nabatieh ahead of raids there.
