India Coal Power Generation Jumps 14% in June

India's coal-powered electricity generation last month surged by 14% on the year to 120.20 billion kWh as drier, hotter weather prompted a significant increase in demand.

Reuters noted in a report on the news that this is the highest portion of coal-fired generation since November 2023.

Wind and solar, meanwhile, also rose as percentage of India's electricity mix, to 19% of the total in June, according to data from the country's grid operator.

On an annual basis, wind and solar rose by 23%, the data also showed.
