Delhi announces winter pollution curbs
The Delhi government on Friday announced a fresh set of anti-pollution measures ahead of the winter season, including a ban on the entry of older commercial vehicles, denial of fuel to vehicles without valid pollution certificates and higher parking charges.Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not comply with BS-VI emission norms will not be allowed to enter the capital between November 1 and January 31.The government will also stop fuel sales to vehicles that do not have a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate as part of its winter air quality management framework.In a move aimed at discouraging private vehicle use, parking charges at authorised parking lots across Delhi will be doubled from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, CM Gupta said.The measures are part of the city's annual strategy to tackle worsening air quality during the winter months, when pollution levels typically spike due to a combination of local emissions and adverse weather conditions. ...
