Hamas announced Khalil al-Hayya as the new head of its Political Bureau on July 20, succeeding Yahya al-Sinwar who was killed in October 2024. Al-Hayya, a lead negotiator in ceasefire efforts, becomes the first appointed to this role since Sinwar's death.
Hamas on Monday named Khalil al-Hayya, one of the founding members of the Palestinian militant group, as its new leader.
Hayya is seen as a respected and pragmatic Hamas veteran “who doesn’t get carried away easily”.
