The SAR’s economic performance has hit new highs since national security laws were enacted, the Hong Kong government said on Tuesday.
That came as the city marked the sixth anniversary of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law.
In a statement, a government spokesperson said the law offered a solid institutional foundation for good governance in the SAR.
The Safeguarding National Security Ordinance complements the National Security Law, the spokesperson said, adding that the two pieces of legislation allowed the SAR to continue moving forward in a turbulent global landscape.
The government also said the living and business environment in Hong Kong has been improving since the enactment of the laws, with the city’s economic performance repeatedly reaching new highs.
“Hong Kong’s safe and stable business environment has been widely recognised by the international community, while the recent geopolitical events have further highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a ‘safe haven’,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson went on to say that the authorities have been promoting national security education and urged the public to stay vigilant in a complicated geopolitical landscape.
