One thousand secondary school students are heading to Shenzhen this year to get first-hand experience with cutting-edge tech industries under a new youth programme.
Organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the scheme targets students aged between 14 and 18 and takes them to an innovation and entrepreneurship hub in Qianhai.
Students will get to explore emerging fields – including artificial intelligence and the low-altitude economy – take part in workshops run by leading innovation firms, and exchange ideas with industry professionals.
Speaking at the launch ceremony on Tuesday, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said the trip offers a unique opportunity for young people.
The programme will provide participants with an immersive experience to see how dreams can become true in Qianhai, as well as opportunities to exchange ideas with top-notch youth talent there, he said.
Sun added that the programme comes at the perfect moment, as the participants “grow together” with the development of the Northern Metropolis and plant the seeds for the city's future I&T talent pool.
