Micronutrient deficiency among mothers  puts child development at risk

Micronutrient deficiency or “hidden hunger” remains a public health concern among Filipino women. Many lack essential nutrients for themselves and their children’s healthy development. The urgency heightens during pregnancy when nutritional demands increase, placing both mother and child at risk. According to the Food and Research Institute (FNRI 2013), 90% of pregnant women are calcium deficient, 70% lack enough protein, 38% are folate deficient, and 30% have inadequate iron intake.
