Forged nurse certificate scandal sparks nationwide checks in Sweden

Municipalities across the country say they may have to double-check staff qualifications after Swedish Radio’s local P4 Västmanland channel revealed that someone with forged qualifications had been working as an assistant nurse.

Pernilla Haglund, who is a unit manager in Degerfors municipality, says that they have sent the certificates of those working as assistant nurses to the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare to be double-checked.

The profession of assistant nurse is a protected job title in Sweden, and it is the National Board of Health and Welfare that issues the certificate stating someone is a qualified assistant nurse. ...
