Pangilinan seeks Senate probe into PH’s ‘Ayungin Deal’ with China

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan sought a Senate investigation into the so-called “Ayungin Deal” or “Provisional Understanding” that the Philippines entered into with China covering rotation and resupply missions to the grounded BRP Sierra Madre. In the proposed Senate Resolution No. 536, filed on Monday, Pangilinan wants the Senate to determine whether the arrangement is consistent with the 2016 arbitral award and examine its implications on the Philippines’ sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea.
