Ortega Seeks to “Enact” End of Electoral Competition Through OrMu Constitution to Wipe Out Democracy in Nicaragua

Gustavo Porras, a congressman and president of the National Assembly, revealed that the regime intends to pass a package of reforms in September to elevate to constitutional status the prohibitions stipulated in the Law on Sovereignty and Loss of Nationality, which have blocked any political participation by the opposition—which has been banished since 2021. The Sandinista official added that they will grant more powers to the Supreme Electoral Council to sideline opponents and are considering extending the presidential term.
