Man arrested over suspected illegal dental practice

A 72-year-old local man has been arrested in a joint crackdown by police and the Department of Health on unlicensed dental services.

Police said the suspect was apprehended at a clinic located on 37 King's Road on Thursday afternoon for allegedly practicing dentistry without registration.

Divisional commander Ma Yee-ling said investigations are ongoing into how long the suspect has been providing services and how many patients he has treated.

"We know this man holds a Hong Kong identity card and is a local resident. Regarding how long he has been working at the clinic, we will collect relevant evidence of employment to further find out his relationship with the clinic," she said.

Ma added that there is currently no evidence indicating the suspect is connected to a dental clinic chain.

Senior dental officer from the Department of Health Andrew But, for his part, reminded residents not to receive treatment at any unlicensed dental clinics to avoid health hazards.

He added that people can check a list of registered dentists on the Dental Council of Hong Kong website.
