Improved working conditions for berry pickers in Sweden — but concerns remain

After years of problems with poor working conditions and unpaid wages 950 foreign berry pickers are currently working in the Swedish forests.

Despite better conditions, the Swedish Food Workers’ Union says it remains concerned and is carrying out a larger number of checks.

Phongphak Sutthiphaet from Thailand is one of the berry pickers who has come to Sweden. In previous years, she worked on Saturdays and wants to continue doing so but the company says no to scheduled weekend work. The company says this is to make sure working hours are followed. ...
