SWAT: Local transport leader Afzal Gujjar was injured while his son, nephew and guard were killed after unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle in the Shakardara area of Matta last night, police said on Monday. Police told local media that the attackers used heavy weapons during the assault that took place on Sunday night. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Gujjar sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment. His son, Behram Khan, was among the three people who lost their lives in the incident. Swat District Police Officer Umar Khan told Dawn that heavy police contingents surrounded the area and started a search operation after the attack. “Three persons were arrested while the search operation is underway,” he said, assuring that police would reach the culprits soon. Officials said an investigation was underway to determine the motive behind the attack and establish the exact circumstances of the incident. A spokesperson for Swat Police also confirmed that law enforcement agencies were actively pursuing the assailants and collecting evidence from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation. On Monday morning, family members and local residents blocked the Matta-Mingora road by placing the bodies of the victims on the tarmac. They demanded that police and local authorities arrest the culprits, threatening to maintain the blockade until justice was served. Gujjar, who was injured in one leg, alleged that police and law enforcement agencies failed to act, saying that about 40 gunmen equipped with heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, attacked him and his family. “When I was in the hospital, police officials were with me in Matta Hospital, and I was constantly receiving phone calls that the attackers continued firing until late night,” he said. Gujjar said the attackers torched his vehicles before fleeing in the early morning and claimed that despite continuously informing police officials, they did not stop the attackers.

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought the stand of the Centre and the CBSE on a petition by Congress party's student wing seeking an independent inquiry into the alleged large-scale irregularities in the on-screen marking (OSM) system for Class 12 exams.Issuing notice on a PIL petition by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), a vacation bench of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Madhu Jain asked the central government and CBSE to file their responses and listed the matter for hearing on June 12.Also read: IIT panel approves new CBSE portal for re-evaluation after security reviewThe petitioner submitted that the CBSE closed the portal for verifying and revaluing answer sheets last night and requested a direction to keep it open for affected students for one month.Counsel for CBSE, advocate M A Niyaz, submitted that the authorities extended the deadline for closing the portal from time to time, and the education board was duly addressing the grievances of aggrieved students. He also objected to the maintainability of NSUI to file the PIL, emphasising that it was a student wing of a political party. A PAKISTANI couple living in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia have been sentenced to two years in prison for forcing their 22-year-old daughter to abort and coercing her into marrying her cousin in Pakistan, Italian news agency ANSA reported. The case echoes the tragic tale of Saman Abbas, a young woman murdered by her family for refusing an arranged marriage in Pakistan. The young woman, who was not identified, reportedly rebelled and reported her parents to the Carabinieri (Italian police) after years of abuse. The victim was said to have been locked in the basement at night, deprived of her cell phone, slapped, forced to kneel, and beaten with her face smashed against the floor. She was subsequently forced to go to Pakistan and threatened if she didn’t agree to an engagement and marriage to a cousin. Finally, when it was discovered that she had become pregnant by a young boyfriend whom her family deemed unsuitable, she was punched in the abdomen and back and forced to have an abortion. Security forces killed four terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said on Thursday. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the four terrorists killed during the operations belonged to Fitna Al Khawarij, referring to the term used by the state to designate members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). “On [the] reported presence of khwarij, an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was conducted by security forces in Dera Ismail Khan district,” ISPR said in a statement. “During [the] conduct of the operation, own troops effectively engaged [the] khwarij location and after [an] intense exchange of fire, two khwarij … were sent to hell.” ISPR added that another IBO was conducted in the Mohmand district of the province. “In [the] ensuing skillful engagement, two more khwarij were effectively neutralised,” the statement added. It further said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the dead terrorists, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities in the area. “Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other kharji found in the area, as [the] relentless Counter Terrorism campaign under vision ‘Azm e Istehkam’ (as approved by Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country,” ISPR stated. At the end of last month, 13 terrorists were killed during a two-day operation in KP’s Darra Adamkhel area, including two Afghan nationals who belonged to the Tariq Gidar group — a TTP affiliate. There has been a resurgence in terrorism in Pakistan since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Taliban administration to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil, particularly those linked to the banned TTP. Officials say those appeals have gone unheeded.

É o que dizem vários especialistas, de monges zen a psicólogos. Essas atividades podem favorecer a atenção plena, também conhecida como mindfulness, ou permitir que a mente divague. Ao mesmo tempo, produzem uma sensação concreta de realização ao cumprir tarefas básicas da vida cotidiana. Um célebre provérbio zen diz: "Antes da iluminação, cortar lenha, carregar água. Depois da iluminação, cortar lenha, carregar água". Os aprendizes zen, os monges unsui, dedicam boa parte do tempo a limpar e organizar. "Varremos a poeira para eliminar os desejos mundanos. Esfregamos a sujeira para nos libertar dos apegos", escreve Shoukei Matsumoto, monge budista residente em Kyoto, no Japão, em seu livro Guia monástico para uma casa e uma mente limpas. "O tempo que passamos limpando com cuidado cada canto dos terrenos do templo é profundamente gratificante." Sensação de conclusão Holly Schiff, psicóloga clínica com consultório em Greenwich, no estado americano de Connecticut, concorda que o processo de limpeza pode ser tranquilizador e quase meditativo. "Sem dúvida, acredito que há uma ligação entre a saúde mental e o ato de limpar", afirma. "Atividades físicas e repetitivas como a limpeza podem regular o sistema nervoso porque são previsíveis, têm estrutura e oferecem uma clara sensação de conclusão." Isso alimenta um sentimento de controle e de enraizamento. Além disso, o resultado é imediatamente visível, "o que pode ser satisfatório de uma forma que muitas tarefas cognitivas ou emocionais não conseguem", acrescenta. Em outros casos, a sensação de sobrecarga não vem da tarefa em si, mas do que ela representa: a pressão do tempo, a autocrítica ou outras ansiedades, observa Schiff. "Divida a tarefa em ações muito pequenas e bem definidas para reduzir essa barreira", sugere. "Escolha primeiro uma única superfície, uma única tarefa ou um único cômodo. Grande parte do peso vem de antecipar a tarefa inteira, em vez de simplesmente dar o primeiro passo."
